WORK UPDATE

Since the Reydon site closed at the end of February, Leon Crossman, our tree surgeon from Wren Tree Surgery has been busy helping us to manage our trees.
The large Alders on Pit 2 have become a problem, partly due to their size but also because of the huge amount of seeds they have been producing. To reduce the risk of them overwhelming the planted coir rolls and areas of banks we have cleared, some of those on Pit 2 have been removed. Others will, in due course, need heavy pollarding to help reduce the problem.
We also had to undertake major pollarding of the large White Poplar on Pit 1. A great shame as it was a beautiful tree, but it had succumbed to rot and presented a danger to both anglers and those in the neighbouring property.
These works are not cheap, so in order to reduce costs, the cut materials were left stacked for us to deal with. Thanks to the efforts of both the Saturday and Thursday work parties, Pit 2 has been dealt with. We now have to deal with Pit 1, work will start on this on Thursday and members are invited to come along to help from 10am.
In addition, the marginal plants we have ordered for Pit 3 are being picked up on Friday with a view to planting being undertaken this Saturday. With over a thousand plants to put in we need a good turn out at the Saturday workparty to get this done. It kicks off at 8am. Anybody who can help should come along with at least wellington boots but preferably waders or chest waders. Please attend if you can.
Last but not least, work parties start again at Kessingland on Monday from 6pm, again, any help would be welcome.
