As part of the ongoing project to gather information on, and ultimately improve, pit 4 as a fishery, committee members will be fishing the water from 4pm tomorrow.
The aim is to take samples from roach and rudd so that the Environment Agency can investigate the growth rate of fish in the water. This will provide information to compare statistically with national data they have. Carp are not used for this as on a national basis there are too many variables involved eg where and how they were raised, how big when stocked, artificial feeding etc. However, the findings will identify what is going on in the water with regard the ability of the existing levels of natural food to support healthy fish growth and help inform the committee about any action that may be necessary.
The water is not being closed but may get busy from 4pm onwards.
